A Breakdown of my Routine as Remote Worker in Munich paused by Weekend Travels
As I surf from one platform to another
Here we are towards the end of the year, what a year it has been so far for me.
The big decision to move to a major European country like Germany to take up a job which looks like a good fit. Munich, as a city, though, might take time for me to warm up to it. The people, likewise.
The decision to dive into a writing workshop is looking like a good one.
The nuances of the culture and the skill to find the balance.
One thing this move has taught me is to learn to find a balance in blending into a new culture. The choice to blend it or not to blend in is a fine art in appropriation. As an individual who is eager to learn about new cultures, sometimes it is alright to take your own time to learn the nuances and figure out the likes and dislikes as your own.
The notion that one has to fit in at a new place just cause of the happenstance of one being there is an expired traditional one which needs revisiting.
The work-life balance as a remote worker in a new country
Joining a new firm in a new country as a remote worker can be daunting, to say the least.
In a traditional sense, it should be easy to move from the comfort of one place to a new place filled with excitement and new opportunities. A small caveat though, the new place is a small room in a new city, a new country and you are all alone hacking away at your system. The remote team is friendly through the numerous video calls.
There is a huge learning curve to understanding the fine art of being a remote working professional in a new world.
The fruits of the writing workshop
Joining Dickie Bush and Nicholas Cole’s Shop30 for 30 cohort may not have been a spur-of-the-moment decision but it felt like jumping into something new every week.
The community was infectious and the course polished the art of digital writing.
The takeaway for me is learning the art of new-age digital writing and the social blog they helped me launch.

The many Flavours of Bavarian Long Weekends
One thing I am glad about being in Munich is the love of the bavarian culture for their cultural holidays. While the city was basking in Oktoberfest, I wanted to try out a different flavour of the country.
For this, I took the long weekend as an excuse to get away to explore another city in Germany - Frankfurt.
The unofficial financial capital of Europe has its charm.

The debate of the finely balanced taste of preference
For the entirety of my stroll through the streets of Frankfurt, I had a debate in my mind about the differences between the two cities - Munich vs Frankfurt.
The posh Bavarian city is rich in tradition and culture. The people seem to thrive on the feeling of belonging there through generations. While the more cosmo city of Frankfurt is proud of the inclusive nature of its spirit. The streets scream about diversity through art, food and people.
The constant question in my mind was regarding my place and which city I belong to, as an expat.
Next week, I hope we can start some new debates and discussions.
Exploring new places in itself is a source of great inner reflection. Great stuff dude.
